Pediatric dentistry: Mark’s story

Who is our hero?

Mark is a curious five-year-old boy, sensitive to new people and unfamiliar situations. He carefully observes those around him but isn’t the type of child who easily opens up. Especially when it comes to medical offices.

Seven months ago, Mark had an unsuccessful experience at the dentist: tears, refusal to even enter the office, and complete distrust of the doctor. Since then, any conversations about teeth triggered anxiety and fear.

His parents deliberately did not rush to try again — they understood how crucial the very first positive experience with a pediatric dentist was. However, when a dark spot and plaque appeared on one of their son’s milk teeth, it became clear — postponing was no longer an option.

Realizing how important it was not to let cavities progress, the parents began searching for a clinic. But there was one “but”:

❗️It was impossible to persuade Mark even to enter the dentistry building.

The family spent a long time choosing a clinic where their child would not be seen simply as a patient with a “problem tooth,” but as a little person — with his own pace, emotions, and needs. It was important that people spoke to him calmly, without rushing or pressuring him. That his fear would not be ignored but acknowledged and gently addressed.

This is how Mark’s family came to Dynasty Stomatology.

The first visit: calmness from the start

Even before entering the office, Mark began to feel more confident — from the very first minutes, the clinic created an atmosphere of calm and trust.

The receptionist kindly addressed the child by name, offered him a picture to color, and engaged him in light conversation. While the parents were filling out the paperwork, Mark was already happily busy with his favorite activity.

On the big screen, he was invited to watch a cartoon — not insistently, but with the question: “What would you like to watch?” Everything happened at a comfortable pace, without rush or pressure.

The assistant came out to the lobby to greet Mark, spoke to him calmly, and asked how he was doing and what he was interested in.

In the office, Dr. Julia welcomed the boy with a warm smile. She didn’t begin the examination right away but gave the child time to get used to the space and to her. Only when Mark was ready, she took the first step toward diagnosis.

Such contact, free from pressure and at a respectful pace, created in the child a sense of safety and trust.

Treatment through play: how it works

Dr. Julia immediately determined which approach would suit this particular child. Instead of a standard examination, she suggested “playing dentist.”

The instruments turned into “magic wands,” the dental mirror became an “explorer’s secret device,” and the chair transformed into a “spaceship for traveling through the tooth galaxy.”

The first patient was Mark’s toy crocodile — his constant companion. The crocodile showed its teeth, allowed them to be checked for cleanliness, and even had a “cavity treated.”

Mark watched, and after a few minutes he said:

 “Is it my turn now?”

Julia managed to gently shift the child’s attention from anxiety to curiosity. Everything happened through play, without pressure, with the active participation of the young patient himself.

Most importantly, the entire visit was adapted to Mark’s temperament. Sudden movements, high emotional intensity, or abrupt changes of pace would not have suited him. The doctor worked calmly, explaining and voicing each action. This created a sense of predictability, control, and, as a result, trust.

By the second visit, a cavity was successfully treated and professional cleaning was performed.

How do we work with parents?

For parents, it wasn’t a lecture but a dialogue.

👩‍⚕️ Julia explained in detail, but simply:
— what happens with the teeth;
— what treatment options exist;
— how they can help their child adapt.

No pressure, not a single word of reproach.

Instead of you must force him, it was: we will think together about how to make the child feel calm.

The result: treatment without tears — and even with joy

Mark left the office after both visits with a wide smile and a sense of pride in himself.
He received a small gift and thanks for helping to treat the crocodile’s tooth.

Most importantly, the child didn’t just undergo an examination and treatment — he did it without tears, in a state of calm and genuine interest.

After the visit, he spent a long time telling his grandmother about the “real vacuum cleaner for teeth” and the “explorer’s device,” and then performed “dental checkups” on all his toys.

What especially impressed the parents was how delicately and gently the doctor built a connection — without pressure and with sincere respect.

And the main result was Mark’s question:

“When are we going to see Dr. Julia again?”

What surprised the parents?
— How gently and carefully the doctors built the connection.
— That the child himself wanted to take part in the process.
— That, essentially, the treatment went by without a single “I don’t want to” — only through play and trust.

What should parents know before the first visit?

👩‍⚕️ Reminder from Dr. Julia:

— Don’t frighten the child with “injections,” “pain,” or “if you don’t behave — we’ll drill.”
— Avoid saying: “don’t be afraid,” “don’t cry,” “be brave” — these words only increase anxiety.
— Explain the process through a story, a game, or role plays.
— Consider the child’s routine — it’s better to schedule the visit in the first half of the day, not after kindergarten.
— Bring a favorite toy — it will give an extra sense of security.
— And most importantly — accept the fear. Don’t shame your child for tears. Your calmness = their calmness.

📋 Checklist for the first visit:

☑ Prepare the child in advance — in the form of a story or a game.
☑ Call the doctor by name — “we are going to see Julia,” not “to the dentist.”
☑ Don’t deceive — it’s better to say “the doctor will just take a look at your teeth.”
☑ Don’t discuss your child’s “dental problems” in their presence.
☑ Support your child and be sure to praise them after the visit.

👶 At Dynasty, we don’t just treat teeth — we preserve the child’s trust in doctors.
💬 Every visit is not stress, but a step toward confidence, beauty, and health.

📞 Book your child’s first consultation — we’ll make it a pleasant adventure.
