A crown is also recommended for a tooth that is shaped oddly, looks small or has a slight misalignment with the other teeth. A dental technician with the help of a digital scan will make the precise crown in a dental laboratory for a custom fit.

Ceramic crown step by step:

Preparation before your appointment

In this step, you will be subject to a detailed dental examination where X-rays and 3D scans of the teeth anterior will be taken. A treatment plan is devised after evaluation of these tests.

Tooth Preparation

Your dentist will file the affected tooth to make a space for inserting the crown. With the help of advanced software, an impression is taken with with CAD/CAM technology for transfer to a computer. It gives the dentist a three-dimensional image sent to a computer with an insight into the onlays and overlay of your mouth.

Cementing the Crown stage

The next step is to mill the crown and for this you do not need several visits during the course of treatment. It is done in one session where you need to test it for the right aesthetic appeal, bite alignment, and perfect fit.

Installation of the crown

This is the final step where last minute touch-ups are given to the crown for the right bite and appeal. When everything is in order, the crown is sent to the manufacturing unit for polishing before it is inserted inside the mouth.

What are ceramic dental crowns in dentistry?

Ceramic dental crowns are caps that look like natural teeth and play an integral role in the field of dentistry. They are generally used in root canal treatments for dental caries or damaged teeth. They are durable, translucent and blend in naturally with the surrounding teeth. They are often recommended when a veneer treatment plan for restoring damaged teeth won’t work. They are biocompatible and do not cause discomfort to patients with mouth sensitivities.

Advantages of Ceramic Crowns for an aesthetic smile

Ceramic crowns with your dentist made with digital technology ensure you get the perfect smile and bite function. Ceramic is a skin friendly material and does not cause allergies like metal.

    Metal-free ceramics: indications for use

in the presence of allergic reactions to crowns made of other materials.

For patients who have allergies to metal, an all-ceramic crown is ideal for them. It is safe, biocompatible, and durable.

Contraindications for the installation of ceramic crowns

caries and restorations in need of replacement

Ceramic crowns will not be recommended to you if you have an untreated oral cavity or a filling that is old. You need to undergo caries treatment first, before you can go in for a ceramic crown.

    bite anomalies

Bite anomalies is another reason for placement of ceramic crowns. Involuntary teeth grinding or clenching, also known as bruxism, are not ideal candidates for ceramic crowns.

    short crown

You may have a tooth with limited space. In such cases, dentists cannot recommend a ceramic crown on the patient’s tooth. The length of the tooth first needs to be increased before considering ceramic inlays.

    inflammation of the gums

Healthy gums are mandatory for successful crown placements. If you have swollen gums, it first has to be treated before the ceramic crown placements.
