Dental x-rays are essential to make an accurate diagnosis. Dental x-ray imaging allows the dentist to evaluate not only the condition of the hard tissues, roots, and nerves of the tooth but also to detect pathological processes in the jawbones. With the help of the image, the dentist can promptly diagnose inflammation, various growths, and assess the quality of previous treatment.
X-ray diagnostics consists in taking digital diagnostic images, which provide clear and precise results. Unlike traditional methods, digital diagnostics deliver higher quality images. This is especially important for assessing the teeth and the correctness of their positioning and condition. Additionally, the bone structures are clearly visible, helping to identify the cause of the problem even in a given fragment of the dentition. This approach allows you to assess the condition of the teeth and surrounding tissues most effectively.
This type of x-ray helps to find hidden caries, unerupted teeth, fractures, cracks, and misalignments. Dental x-rays are often used in implantology and for evaluating the patency of root canals, the correctness of their filling, the degree of bone destruction, and the quality of crowns, bridges, and prosthetics installation.
Indications for Dental X-ray Diagnosis
A dental x-ray photo is performed before most dental procedures, such as:
-
root canal filling;
-
prosthetics;
-
installation of crowns or implants;
-
treatment of periodontitis and periodontosis;
-
dental treatment, for example, pulpitis;
-
jaw injuries: dislocations, fractures, bruises;
-
abnormal tooth position;
-
pathological processes under a filling;
-
suspicion of granuloma or cyst;
-
growths in the oral cavity;
-
hidden infection sites;
-
incorrect bite.
Types of dental X-ray images
CT (computed tomography) — a 3D digital x-ray diagnostic that provides high-precision images of gums and teeth. This scanner is essential before implantation.
Dental x-ray diagnostics in dentistry use modern x-ray machines and digital technology to ensure accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plans.
How Does the Procedure Take Place?
Depending on the appropriate goal, your dentist may assign an x-ray of one tooth or several teeth, and if necessary — the entire jaw. For a standard procedure, the dentist uses a compact digital device, so the examination can be performed right in the dental chair. To obtain the image, the patient needs to bite down and hold the film with their teeth.
To make a jaw or 3D photo (CT), specialized equipment occupying a separate room is required. Before the procedure, the patient must remove all metal objects. Then the patient enters the facility and positions themselves in front of the special machine. X-ray beams pass around the skull, collecting the necessary data. This information is transmitted to the dentist’s computer, allowing the image to be received almost instantly.
If the image is comprehensive intraoral (targeted), the irradiation affects only the jaw. If the dentist prescribes a panoramic x-ray, the patient’s chest is covered with a protective apron containing a lead layer or a special collar. The procedure is completely painless and lasts just a few seconds. The time depends on the type of x-ray assigned.
Prices for Dental X-rays
We offer reasonable prices for elite services. The price of the x-ray depends on its type and the number of images taken. Note that an x-ray of one tooth costs less than the entire dentition and jaw apparatus. If a detailed description of the image is needed, this will also affect the price. The exact cost is known only after consultation and examination. But approximate prices can be found in the price list.
Our facility uses modern x-ray machines employed in the best dental clinics worldwide. Thanks to this, the irradiation dose during dental care supported by digital diagnostic is much lower. To reach the annual irradiation limit of 1000 μSv, a patient would need to have over 100 x-rays. Therefore, you can be confident that neither your health nor the health of your children will be affected.
